Meet Patricia.

The CEO/Co-Founder - Trish

Patricia’s path in life has shaped her into a leader, advocate, and champion for inclusivity, equity, and empowerment. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Patricia has turned her challenges into a source of strength and determination. Raised as one of four girls in a single-parent home by her Indigenous mother, Patricia faced numerous obstacles, including difficulties with speech and movement, which led to early educational struggles. However, these challenges only fueled her resolve to prove that she could thrive—refusing to let her disability define her.

Her early experiences in education were difficult, but they became pivotal moments in shaping Patricia’s unyielding drive. She was held back a year to accommodate her speech impairment, an experience that left her feeling isolated and discouraged. Yet, it was this very moment that sparked her resolve to work harder, challenge societal expectations, and show that she had the ability to succeed in ways that went beyond conventional norms. Patricia’s perseverance earned her honors and accolades in school, especially in subjects like math and accounting, where her analytical mind excelled.

Although Patricia faced financial concerns regarding repaying student loans, she chose to start her own business making dog treats and volunteered in various community roles instead of continuing her education. Then her life took an unexpected turn with the loss of her mother, an event that forced Patricia to navigate life independently for the first time. With the unwavering support of her sister Jennifer, Patricia learned valuable lessons in homecare, self-sufficiency, and resilience—ultimately regaining her independence. This journey of self-discovery and growth empowered Patricia to live on her own, and she has now been successfully managing her life independently for over 10 years.

Another significant milestone in Patricia’s journey came when she worked to reclaim her heritage. She obtain Status with the Caldwell First Nation, honoring her mother's legacy and securing her place within her Indigenous community. This connection to her roots, gave her an opportunity to continue her education. Therefore, after more than two decades, Patricia went back to school where she earned a Business Accounting Diploma from Fanshawe College, graduating with distinction on the President’s Honour Roll. This accomplishment fulfilled a long-held dream and was a tribute to the memory of her late mother.

With a strong foundation in business and an unwavering commitment to her community, Patricia co-founded The Ability Company with her sister Jennifer. As CEO, Patricia leads the company’s vision, strategic planning, and long-term goals, while managing the financial department.

Patricia’s remarkable journey is a testament to her resilience, heart, and leadership. Her work with The Ability Company reflects her commitment to making a difference—ensuring that people of all abilities have the opportunity to thrive. Through her leadership, Patricia is leaving a lasting legacy for her family, her community, and future generations, breaking down barriers and empowering others along the way.
